Spotlight - Melissa Baum

Each week we will be picking members to spotlight to tell their Alzheimer's story and why they are running in this year's New York City marathon. Check in each day for new updates on who will be spotlighted and get to know your teammates...(each person is picked at random)

Myself, grandmother, and her brother celebrating my law school graduation.
Recently, my grandmother has gotten into the pattern of telephoning my mother and asking “how is the baby?”

Well Grandma, the baby is great.  Remember that car you bought her for her high school graduation present? Ten years, a few car batteries, and 80,000 miles later, it still carries her where she needs to go.  She graduated law school in 2007 and is fortunate to call New York City home. She is an attorney and has a job here she enjoys.

She has a boyfriend, whom loves her and whom she loves with all of her heart.  She is thankful for her friends, many of whom she has known since childhood, and friendships which have bloomed with age.   She has parents whom are her biggest fans and supporters, and a relationship with them which has turned into a unique friendship.

The baby is now 28 years old.  While Grandma now may not remember any of these memories from the past, nor appreciate those, like meeting the man who will become my future, her baby I will always be.
